History

SustainableOman spun off from SustainableQatar, when one of its Executive Committee members, Agnes, moved from Doha to Muscat in 2013.

Being new in Oman, Agnes has to study current environmental legislation in the Sultanate, as part of her new job as an environmental and sustainability specialist.

She reached out and contacted various ministries to have copies of laws as well as its availability in English. It took a couple of months to be able to compile all related laws and this prompted her to use this as an initial mission of SustainableOman – to make all this wealth of information easily accessible.

Since then, SustainableOman is the only site providing Omani environmental legislation in an accessible manner.

SustainableOman strives to share SustainableQatar’s mission and vision, however, due to limited resources, it primarily focused in building capacity by providing a source of information on Omani environmental law and scientific articles in the course of environmental practice in the Sultanate.

This unique resource, which combines environmental law information and other related government reports and publications, seeks to put this information at the disposal of users in Oman and worldwide, in an easily accessible service.
